Sewing Hoops Made Modern:

Well, when I first moved into my apartment, it was plain and boring. It's my first place, so I really just had hand-me-down furniture...lame. So I decided the first place to start was the walls, I couldn't paint the walls, due to apartment rules, and even if I could. The plaster on the walls is textured, making it difficult to paint. So why not add some color through cool wall art? Maybe something modern? So I did some looking around, and found a cool idea to make sewing hoops into modern wall art! Cheap, easy, fast! Perfect! So I rushed to my local fabric store and grabbed the necessary items.

ITEMS:

3 modern colors in fabric, I chose one in Brown (neutral) and 2 colors that would "pop": Teal and Lime Green. I bought about about a yard of each. (patterned fabric would work great too!)

Different sized sewing hoops: 3 extra small, 1 small, 3 medium, 2 large, and 3 extra large. (Sewing hoops come with a large outer hoop and smaller inner hoop.)

Nails: simple picture hanging nails will do.

Black or White Paint: I used Black Acrylic and hand painted. (spray paint would work too.)

Step 1:
I started by painting the hoops black, I painted the sides and rim of the large outer hoop and the rims of the inner hoop.(the fabric will cover the inside.)

Step 2:
Place the dried hoops on the fabric and cut around it about an inch away from the outer rim of the hoop. Do this for each hoop, in different colors. I made more of the hoops in brown, than in the green and teal.
5 in Brown
4 in Teal
3 in Lime Green

Step 3:
Place the fabric over the outer largest hoop, press the small inner hoop (over top the fabric) into the large outer hoop, and tighten the screw at the top. Make sure to pull the fabric tight, you don't want the surface to have any wrinkles!

Step 4: cut off  any excess fabric from the back so that the hoops lay flat against the wall.

Step 5: decide where you want the hoops on the wall and what design suits you best. I sketched out my plans on paper, so I new, generally, where to put the nails.

Step 6: place and hammer your nails.

Step 7: Hang up you new wall art and ENJOY!
